Daily budget (Google Ads)
What is a daily budget (Google Ads)?
A daily budget in Google Ads is the average amount you set for one campaign per day. It is not a hard ceiling: on days with more searches the system can spend up to twice that amount, and on quiet days it spends less. Across a month Google will not charge more than the daily budget multiplied by 30.4, the average number of days in a month.
Example
An air conditioning firm sets €20 a day. On a hot Friday searches spike and Google spends €38 — allowed, because the limit for a single day is twice the average budget. On Sunday it gets through €9. At the end of the month the invoice is around €600, not the €1,140 that thirty days at €38 would come to: the monthly limit is €20 × 30.4 = €608.
The second figure to read next to the budget is impression share. If a campaign loses 45% of its impressions to budget, the searches are there and the ad simply stops showing. At €0.50 a click and a 4% conversion rate, every 100 clicks missed is about four enquiries lost.
Why it matters for a business
A daily budget decides how much of the demand you see, not how well the advertising works. A campaign with a small budget and a healthy cost per lead is not thrifty — it is capped. The reverse holds too: raising the budget on a campaign that brings no enquiries only spends the money faster.
One practical detail: the budget sits on the campaign, not on the account. Three campaigns at €10 are €30 a day even when only one of them sells. A shared budget spreads one amount across several campaigns, which is convenient and hides which of them took it.
Seasonality is planned in advance. For a promotion week the budget goes up before the peak, not after the report shows the demand that was missed.
What to ask
- Which campaigns are marked limited by budget, and how many impressions does that cost?
- What does an enquiry cost in each campaign, and should budget move between them?
- How is the budget split between brand and non-brand keywords?
- What happens to the budget over holidays, promotions and the off season?
We write those decisions into the monthly campaign plan for Google Ads, next to the cost per enquiry for each campaign.
