Inbound link (backlink)

What is an inbound link (backlink)?

An inbound link, or backlink, is a hyperlink from someone else’s site to a page of yours. Search engines read it as a recommendation: a page many credible sources point to is treated as more reliable. Who links matters far more than how many — one link from a respected industry site outweighs a hundred from directories, and bought links earn a penalty rather than a position.
