# Is your logo vector? Check the file

> Drop your logo file and in seconds you will see whether it is vector, how large it prints sharp, and how it looks in a browser tab, a round profile picture, on a business card and on a dark background.

## What we check

We read the file in your browser. The format comes from its first bytes, not its name. In SVG, PDF and AI files we count drawn shapes against placed photos; in EPS we read the page description. Print size is the width in pixels divided by 300 pixels an inch. Transparency, colours and proportions are measured on the pixels themselves, and contrast by the WCAG 3:1 rule against white and near-black.

## What people ask

### How do I tell whether my logo is vector?

Drop the file into the check above: it names the format and says whether the file holds drawn shapes or a placed photo. Without a tool, open the file in a design program and zoom in. Vector stays crisp at any zoom; raster breaks into squares.

### Which logo file does a printer want?

Usually PDF, AI or EPS, with text converted to outlines and colours in CMYK or Pantone. More and more printers accept SVG. PNG and JPG only work for small print, and only if there are enough pixels; the check above works out how large.

### Why is my logo blurry in print?

Because the file is raster and has too few pixels for that size. Sharp print needs about 300 pixels an inch, so a logo 480 px wide prints sharp up to about 41 mm. The DPI field in the file does not help; only the pixels count.

### Can a PNG logo be made vector?

Only by redrawing it. Automatic "vectorising" in online converters leaves uneven lines and far too many points. A designer redraws the mark by hand, line by line, and matches the typeface, so the logo stays clean at any size.

### What is a transparent background, and why doesn't JPG have one?

A transparent background means there is no colour around the mark, so whatever you place it on shows through. PNG, WebP, SVG and PDF allow it. JPG cannot store transparency, so on a photo or a coloured page the logo sits in a white box.

### Do you upload my file anywhere?

No. The file is read in your browser and never sent to us or to anyone else. If you want us to see it, attach it to the enquiry under the result yourself.
