## What is a restricted ad account?

A restricted ad account is an advertising account on Meta, Google or TikTok that the platform has stopped from running ads — over a policy breach, a payment problem or an automated check. Campaigns halt at once, reporting usually stays readable, and the stated reason is rarely detailed. Getting the account back means asking the platform for a review, and a review can end either way.

**Example**

A supplements shop launches a campaign on Friday evening. By Saturday morning the ad account is restricted, with a generic message about health claims. Every campaign is off for the weekend, which is the strongest selling period of the week.

What actually happens next: the team requests a review in Account Quality inside Meta Business Suite, takes down the ads in question, checks that every admin has two-factor authentication switched on, and confirms the payment card is valid. Meanwhile sales are held up by the email list and by organic posts. The review can return the account in hours, in days, or not at all. No agency can promise the outcome, because the decision belongs to the platform.

**Why it matters for a business**

If one ad account carries all the traffic, losing it stops the revenue too. A shop with organic search, an email list and repeat customers loses a channel. A shop that only ever bought traffic loses everything until a stranger reviews a form.

The second consequence is quieter. On Meta a restriction can reach the business portfolio itself — the pixel, the catalogue, the page — which is how a product feed and organic posting stop on the same morning. That is the argument for holding the assets in a company business portfolio rather than in one employee’s personal profile.

**What to ask**

- Who owns the ad account, the pixel and the page — the company or the agency? Ownership belongs in the company’s own business portfolio.
- Are there at least two admins, both with two-factor authentication?
- Is there a second channel — email, organic traffic, search ads — that can carry a week without Meta?
- When does the appeal window close, and who submits the review request?
- Is it written down which claims we may and may not make in an ad?Account hygiene, access rules and a fallback plan are part of how we run social media management.
