## What are Reels?

Reels are the short vertical videos on Instagram and Facebook that play full screen and get shown to people who do not follow the account. They are handed out by interest in the subject rather than by who follows you, so one post can travel far past your own audience. Most run under a minute, carry sound and captions, and only pay off when they come at a steady rhythm.

**Example**

A home textile shop posts product photos three times a week. Each one collects about 900 views, nearly all of them from people who already follow the account. For one month the team changes format: two short videos a week, each under 30 seconds, filmed on a phone. The first shows how to fold a fitted sheet; the second puts two fabrics side by side so the difference is visible.

Eight videos later the month closes on 41,000 views, 26,000 of them from people who do not follow the account. Three of the eight carry almost all of that, while the other five stay under 1,000 views. The shape is normal: most videos go nowhere, and one that travels reaches more people than ten ordinary posts.

**Why it matters for a business**

An ordinary post is shown mainly to people who already follow you. Reels are handed out by interest in the subject, which is how a small account reaches people who have never heard of it — new faces at the start of the funnel, with no media budget behind them. TikTok videos and YouTube Shorts use the same vertical 9:16 format, so one piece of footage can be edited for all of them.

The cost sits in production. People watch in places where the sound is off — on a bus, at a desk, next to a sleeping child — so captions are a condition rather than a decoration, and the format rewards rhythm: two good videos a month beat twenty photographs. Views on their own are not sales, so we read them next to engagement rate, profile visits and the clicks that reach the site.

**What to ask**

- Who films and who edits — you, someone on site, or the agency? Who delivers the raw material, and by when?
- How many videos a month does the plan carry, and what happens when one takes off: is there a follow-up ready on the same subject?
- Does the report show reach among people who do not follow you, how far they watch and how many open the profile — not only likes?
- Who answers the comments in the first hours, while the video is being handed out fastest?
- Which footage can also run as an ad, and who holds the rights to the music and to the faces in it?We shoot and edit Reels for Instagram and Facebook and videos for TikTok as part of photo and video production, with captions and a cut for each network. The subject plan, publishing and reporting stay within social media management.
