## What is Meta Business Manager (business portfolio)?

Meta Business Manager, now called a business portfolio, is the account where a company keeps its Pages, ad accounts, datasets and catalogues and hands out access to people and agencies. Ownership stays with the company while access is granted and withdrawn, so an employee leaving or an agency changing takes nothing away. Its settings open at business.facebook.com, while Meta Business Suite is the panel for the day-to-day work on the same assets.

**Example**

A heating company works with an agency for three years. The Page was created from a former marketer’s personal profile, the ad account sits in the agency’s portfolio, and so does the pixel. The split is amicable, and the company still walks away with nothing: no campaign history, no audiences, no pixel data, and a Page administered by someone who left long ago.

The right arrangement is the reverse. The company opens its own business portfolio, claims the Page, the ad account, the dataset, the catalogue and the domain inside it, then adds the agency as a partner with access to what it needs. When the work ends, access is removed with one click and the assets stay.

**Why it matters for a business**

An ad account accumulates value: spend history, audiences, events, everything the delivery system has learned. All of it is lost if the account belongs to somebody else. Then there is the risk of losing access altogether — a personal profile that is the only administrator can be hacked, disabled or simply abandoned, and recovery through Meta support is slow.

A portfolio also settles the question of roles. Access is granted per asset and at a level, rather than as administrator of everything. Anyone with access to an ad account should have two-factor authentication switched on; that is the first thing we check, together with who owns the Facebook Page.

**What to ask**

- Does the company have its own business portfolio, with the real owner named in it?
- Which assets are claimed inside it — Page, Instagram account, ad account, dataset, catalogue, domain?
- Who has full control, who has partial access, and why exactly that much?
- Is the agency a partner, or the owner of the account?
- Are there at least two people with full control and two-factor authentication on?Before social media management starts, we sort ownership out, and work inside somebody else’s account only until the company has its own.
