## What is brand awareness?

Brand awareness is the share of the people in your market who know you exist and can connect your name with what you actually do. It is not a follower count, and one impression does not buy it. It is measured indirectly: searches for your name, your share of the conversation in the category, and how many enquiries arrive from people who already knew you.

**Example**

A company spends six months on one message, in one visual language, across three channels. The numbers that show movement:

- searches for the company name in Google: from 40 to 180 a month;

- the share of direct visits: from 6% to 14% of all traffic;

- in the “how did you hear about us” field, three in ten people write a social network.

The reach campaign behind it costs €600 for the month and delivers 120,000 impressions, or €5 per thousand. Reach is 45,000 people, which works out at an average of 2.7 impressions each — enough for something to stick, and far too few if the message is different every time.

For comparison, a campaign for enquiries with the same €600 brings roughly 20 enquiries, or €30 each. The two are not judged by the same number: one is measured this month, the other by how much cheaper the next enquiry becomes.

**Why it matters for a business**

Awareness sells nothing on its own, and it makes everything after it cheaper. People click an ad from a name they recognise, open an email from a sender that means something, and hesitate less before paying. The same budget therefore buys a different result for a known brand than for an unknown one.

The danger sits in the easy numbers. Reach, impressions and likes all rise with every euro spent and prove nothing about memory. Engagement rate says something about the content, not about the brand. The traces worth checking are elsewhere: searches for your name, direct visits, repeated mentions, and the answer a customer gives when you ask how they found you.

**How to improve it**

- One message, repeated long enough. Changing it every month restarts the counting.

- One visual language across everything — posts, banners, packaging, invoices. Recognition is visual work.

- Presence where the market is already asking questions, not only where publishing is convenient.

- Measure the name: branded searches and the share of direct traffic, read month against month.

In our social media management, the monthly report puts reach and engagement next to the enquiries, so neither is read on its own.
